Lists of Acidic and Alkalizing Foods
When consuming foods, there’s more to foods other than being conscious about the calories that these foods contain and the gain that you put on. The foods that you consume every single day have its effects to the chemical balance that you have in the body and once disrupted this may cause some health complications.
If you are currently experiencing some health issues like fatigue, headaches, or some recurring allergic reactions, colds or fever, you may be having chemical imbalance. And to address this problem, you have to eat the right type of foods to help restore the chemical balance that would lead to a healthy and normal level.
Understanding pH Level
The body normally contains both acid and alkaline at a certain level which is at a normal range. Such acidity or alkalinity is measured using a pH scale that runs from 0 to 14; a level that is said to be neutral is 7, and lesser than level 7 already acidic and over 7 is said to be alkaline. In essence the body is better to be inclined to an alkaline state than an acidic one.
Many factors can be attributed as to why pH level becomes acidic and once this is reached, it is best for the body to have sufficient alkaline to recover its neutral pH level state and eliminate all the excess acids that may be trapped inside one’s body. If this is not done, then one’s body may be at risk of acidosis which is related to the occurrence of all sorts of diseases and illnesses that may run from moderate to severe types.
Foods that must be avoided
To help one from being overly acidic or if the case is that an illness is brought by over acidity then it is proper to aim for the body’s chemical level, pH, to be at normal range. Another way to maintain a body that is alkaline is to practice the alkaline diet.
Practicing the alkaline diet may be too hard for some because of the foods that it comprises as well as some of the foods that needs to be avoided. To restore body’s normal pH level of the body, there are certain foods that need to be avoided and such foods are those that people love eating are the following:
- Meat
- Dairy products
- Other meat products
- Chocolate
- Seafood
- Condiments
- Alcohol
- Instant foods
- Carbonated drinks
- Coffee and many other foods.
These foods are what people normally love eating and unfortunately, these foods are rich in acid which makes the body be more acidic.
Foods that should be eaten more of
A basic rule in the alkaline diet, a daily meal must consist of ¾ alkaline, for every meal that one eats there should be 3 times more alkaline than the acid that it has. And to help one have an idea of the foods that contain high sources of alkaline, following below are the foods that may be good to eat.
Vegetables- these are carrots, cabbage, artichokes, radish, watercress, lettuce, garlic, turnip, asparagus, peas, onion, leeks, celery, chives, Brussels sprouts kale and cucumber.
Fruits- these are lemon, avocado, lime, watermelon, grapefruit, apple, pear, cantaloupe, peach, grapes, berries and banana.
Nuts, Grains, and Seeds- these are sesame, pumpkin, flax, sunflower, lentils and almond.
Drinks- vegetable juice, water, almond milk, non sweet soya milk and herbal teas.
Fats and Oils- flax, olive, coconut and evening primrose.
Because of the extensive researches made on alkaline diet, there are some variations on the level of alkalinity in the foods that is said to be alkaline. The level of alkaline that these foods contain differ from one another. And the basic idea is to eat more of these leafy vegetables and limit or better yet avoid meat products, dairy products, sweets and others.
